FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What kind of camera do I need to bring?
Any DSLR camera where you can change the settings (for example, to shoot in manual mode) is great. If you are buying a camera for this trip, a good starter camera is this one. It’s also helpful to bring a laptop, if you have one, for downloading photos and doing your one-on-one critiques of your photography with Tara.
What if I’ve never done yoga before?
Well, this will be an amazing way to start learning! Don’t be intimidated. Yoga is for everyone.
What if I’m an experienced photographer and/or yogi?
Then you’re going to absolutely love this trip. You’ll have the opportunity to take both your photography and your yoga practice to another level, and also to sink in and enjoy being a student again. Since Love Offensive trips are small, Tara is able to provide individualized instruction, assignments and feedback based on your level of experience and the areas where you’d like to grow.
What will the accommodations be like?
Accommodations will be clean and comfortable, usually with a bohemian vibe and a community-living feel to them. In most cases we’ll be two people to a room with a shared bathroom. During our one night staying with indigenous families in a community at Lake Atitlán, accommodations will be more modest, but will include your own bed in homes with electricity and running water.
Do I have to pay for the whole trip at the time that I register?
No, you can spread your payments out over time, if you wish. The cost of the trip is $1695. You can elect to pay in two installments of $875, or six installments of $300. While this brings up the cost, it breaks things up so you can pick your poison.
Where should I fly into?
You should plan to arrive at La Aurora International Airport in Guatemala City, Guatemala on March 3, 2018 and depart from there on March 10, 2018. Please note that your flight is not included in the cost of the trip. We (Tara, Jenn and/or Ali) will meet you at the airport when you arrive – yay! – and we’ll get you back to the airport on the 10th in time to catch your flight home.

What’s your approach to working with communities or organizations in the places where you visit?
Destination Love Offensive partners directly with local communities, organizations, and leaders in the places we visit. Together, and through the power of photography, we uplift one another, share stories, and celebrate the human spirit. Learn more on our Community Partners page.
What should I pack?
Once you register, we’ll send you a packet of information with details about the trip, including a thorough packing list. Generally, we try to pack light so that we can move easily from location to location. Of course, the main things to bring are your camera, a laptop (if you have one), your yoga mat, yoga clothes (don’t have to be fancy!), and comfortable clothes and shoes for moving around, taking photographs, and having the best trip of your life.
Who will be leading the trip?
Tara Morris leads all Destination Love Offensive trips, and she is both the photography and yoga instructor for each trip. Jenn Ciplet, her co-conspirator, handles logistics, general operations of each trip, and adds extra yumminess. For our Guatemala trip, we’ve added another bad ass member to our team: Ali Durbin, who has lived in Guatemala for more than 20 years and who is helping us set up visits for our group that very few others visiting Guatemala would have the opportunity to experience. We’ll be off the beaten tourist path, and in all the best ways.
